Everything you need to decide, and nothing you have to guess at.
Who is eligible, what it costs, what to bring, and what happens after you apply.
Three things.
- You're coming directly from an inpatient drug and alcohol program. Inpatient means residential rehab. A detox-only stay doesn't qualify on its own; we'll help you find the right next step.
- You're 18 or older.
- You're committed to sobriety.
- You're willing to follow the house expectations and take part in the program.
Men's House: accepting now. Women's House: waitlist open.
No bed open today?
You don't have to wait in limbo. The The Worx! Recovery Housing Bridge Program houses people who've completed inpatient treatment, free of charge, while they wait for a DDAP-licensed bed, then funds the first 90 days once one opens. Allegheny County residents with active Allegheny County Medicaid who have completed inpatient (residential) drug and alcohol treatment.

Do you take Suboxone or Vivitrol?
Yes. Both are supported through our clinical partnership with Allegheny Health Network. Methadone is not supported within the residence; we'll help you find an appropriate level of care.
How much does it cost, really?
$655 a month per bed. No application fee, no deposit, no program fee, and drug screenings are free. Late payments carry a $10-a-day fee for up to five days, and there's a written hardship plan if you talk to staff before a payment is missed. Current residents who hit a hardship can also be referred to The Worx! Recovery House Scholarship, which covers room and board while they work with the Worx support team.
Do I have to come from inpatient treatment?
Yes. Vera's Place admits people coming directly from an inpatient (residential) drug and alcohol program. A detox-only stay doesn't qualify on its own. If you've finished inpatient and no bed is open, ask about The Worx! Recovery Housing Bridge Program, which houses you free of charge while you wait.
Can I work?
Yes, after your first 72 hours. Part-time first, full-time once you've shown stability. Staff approve schedules, shifts end by 5 PM unless approved, and jobs where alcohol is the main business aren't allowed.
What's the curfew?
8:00 PM every day unless staff approves otherwise. Residents stay in the house overnight.
Can I have visitors?
Scheduled in advance and approved by staff, in common areas, while staff is present. No overnight guests.
What happens if I relapse?
You'll complete a drug and alcohol assessment and follow the clinical recommendation. Relapse does not automatically mean discharge; refusing the recommendation can.
How long can I stay?
As long as you're working the program and meeting expectations. The 20% savings requirement is there so you leave with a deposit for your own place.
Is there transportation?
The house is on transit lines in McKees Rocks. Bring or plan for bus fare; the wish list often covers passes.
